Artist Statement

Recognizing that diverse humans communicate in diverse ways, I am continually exploring how to effectively express empathy through multiple lenses utilizing whatever media feels authentic to the concept. My works most often revolve around themes of the human condition, action versus reaction, displacement, belonging, evolution, and the cycle of individual to collective identities. I experiment with form, balance, color, and texture, creating layers of interpretation to help meet the viewer wherever they are. Through my practice I aim to foster connection and understanding between people, as well as between a person and themselves.

I am passionate about public art because art is for everyone and everyone is art. Growing up in poverty, I understand how societal and socio-economic barriers and gatekeeping can debilitate individuals and divide communities. It is my intention to make shifts towards larger scale public works and immersive installations as a way of supporting accessibility and connection. My efforts may be a small drop in the ocean but I believe it is an endeavor worth engaging in.
